Hi All,

Have recently had the SSL certificate installed (green padlock) on our domain name and was wondering what files I need to change in order to get it show on our forum, which is already showing on our online store.

It is showing https://www.outdoorking.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm but not showing the green padlock like on the online store.

Any help with what files need to be changed to https:// would be great.

I have only dabbled with ssl.
But I would assume it is just a mater of changing the path in the UBB control panel from http://www to https://www

Any existing internal links on posts need to be converted to show https vs http, your forum install links should also be updated so that any references to on site links and images are linked to the ssl version otherwise users will be prompted that data could not be completed due to it being an insecure local resource.

Some instances in the UBB hardcode http into links, such as user avatars, so will have to update those manually as you come across them (7.6.0 has these updated). Any images linked to as well will need to be using https otherwise you'll never get that "green shield" (note, the color of the validated SSL notification in the browser is specific to that browser, they're not all the same).

You'd likely want to also force ssl via the webserver, so that users are forced to use SSL (which will give you the bonus search engine ranking that i'm sure you're after).

i've gone to the green shield on one forum and the easiest way to handle any stray internal links ( http vs https ) is just to hijaack the Graemlin Smarty filter and add a change to https wherever an http link is found wink

the same hijaack is used to implement a CDN for images/* styles/* as well..

works great smile

Except with a CDN (using Cloudflare for my example) new users may not be able create an account if you also have SFS enabled. This is fixed in 760. It's not a SFS issue. Its an issue of how IP addresses are determined within UBBT 7.5.x. (hat-tip to Gizmo, for this major bug fix -- for CDNs and proxy support)

As for non-embedded URLs, the Control Panel locations to update are -

Control Panel » DB, Paths & URLs
Full URL to Main Directory:
https://www.YOURSITE.com/forums

If you dont use relitive urls, also update:
Relative URL to Main Directory:
https://www.YOURSITE.com/forums

Control Panel > Primary Settings > Advanced Options
Domains for HTTP Referer Check:
http://www.YOURSITE.com|http://YOURSITE.com|https://www.YOURSITE.com|https://YOURSITE.com

There are many other minor issues with going HTTPS within UBB.threads.
User hosted avatars, inlined images, signatures... ads

As well as the urls for user's websites and links on the My Profile pages. There are several hard coded references to "http" within the stock UBB.threads code.

All of this has been corrected for 760 - which is fully friendly to HTTP and HTTPS.

Thanks for the reply and I have already changed the admin side of things but having an issue with finding the Graemlin Smarty filter file so I can make changes to see if that will work.

At this stage I am also having an issues with people trying to register as will. They are getting a message that the display name is already in use but it is not.
