Does the auto delete function require any additional setup.

I want a forum to delete anything over 30 days old. I set the value in the forum setting. Is this hands off for me now?

What time do these things run and can I modify that?

You have to set up a cron table entry which runs cron/perl/doexpire.pl or cron/php/doexpire.php.

Thanks.

I take it I can run this from the command line as well?

Supposed I wish to manually delete posts older that 30 days like UBB classic used to support?

Yes, you can run doexpire.php from the command line.... or the browser... although there is no browser output.

You can find help to set up the cron job here:

First I made a change to the doexpire.pl file.

<pre> // Require the library
require ("/usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/main.inc.php");
$html = new html;
</pre>

Then I ran the file from ../threads/cron directory as root. I recieved the following errors.
<pre>./doexpire.php: ?: No such file or directory
./doexpire.php: /-bF: Permission denied
./doexpire.php: */: No such file or directory
./doexpire.php: //: is a directory
./doexpire.php: line 22: syntax error near unexpected token `("/usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/main.inc.php")'
./doexpire.php: line 22: ` require ("/usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/main.inc.php"); </pre>

Try running doexpire.php from your browser.

You won't get any output. But it seems to work for me. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

I got it working. I screwed up one of the path statements in the config file.

Thanks for the help.
