One of our moderators mistakenly moved a thread to a different forum. The moderator of the "new" forum moved it back where it belongs. The first moderator has now asked me to remove the redirect. This thread has 655 pages, 6542 replies, and 46,982,194 views. I do NOT want to remove the original thread. I'm pretty sure removing the redirect will only remove the redirect, but in an abundance of caution, I wanted to ask if there are any gotchas I need to be aware of.

This is the thread: https://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthread...-done-on-your-bolt-today.html#Post476108

All my site specs are in my sig.

I have never tried to delete a pointer post.
But it will delete itself depending on what they picked between 1-31 days..

Maybe as a admin edit the pointer post and see if you can change it. to no pointer or just one day.

There's no edit option. I know it will delete itself, which is why I surmise that deleting it won't hurt anything. However, looking at it in the db, the TOPIC_ID matches the TOPIC_ID for the actual thread, so selecting Delete Topic makes me queasy. I thought about just deleting the post directly in the db, but again, I don't know what the impact will be. If I select Delete Topic, and it deletes the topic based on the TOPIC_ID and not the POST_ID, then the entire 655 pages will be gone. And I definitely don't want that. Which is precisely why I have done nothing while I wait for advice.

Pointers are new threads. They have no ties to the original thread other than containing a link to the original thread's new location.

A pointer is a row created within the TOPICS table with a TOPIC_STATUS of "M" (moved).
Your previous thread remains untouched in TOPICS table, with the exception of its FORUM_ID updated to the new FORUM_ID location.

You can safely delete your pointers without having any affect on the original thread.

To delete a pointer thread, view the post (or select it from the Inline Post Moderation on the postlist page), then choose "Delete Thread" from the Tools menu.
