Hi All,

I have just had my forum software updated and have noticed after the install that when I go into the control panel and try to look up an email it hangs. Version installed is 7.7.2 on a linux server.

Note that the person that takes care of the server has advise me that the MSQL is running very high usuage. Would this be because of the control panel requesting a search of an email address and why it is hanging.

Thank you for reporting this.

Its due to a poorly written mysql query. In your server error logs, you'll probably see, "poorly written SQL query."

This SQL query adds User Group searching when User Groups are not needed. So your query gets hung up while it goes through every single user/group looking for the search term - and if there is no search term, that is all your users and all of your user groups.

Im aware of it and have created a fix for it about a week AFTER 7.7.2 was released (2019-07-02).

7.7.3 should be available very soon, with this fix and one other known issue (a display issue) as of today.

In my tests, the poor SQL query is inly triggered when you enter NO search terms, and then submit the page for searching. The work-around until 7.7.3 is released, is to remember to enter something to search for, before submitting the page.

Isaac,

Thank you for the reply but I am entering a members email address and what is happening is that it hangs and then my server goes down. I get notifications like this The monitor Outdoorking (http://www.outdoorking.com) is currently DOWN (Connection Timeout).

The whole site goes down because of it.

As written above, 7.7.3 will resolve this when its released.

It wasnt caught on test servers because we were using databases with fewer than 500 accounts.

Once the issue was found (one week after 7.7.2 was released, which was about 10 days ago on July 2nd), a solution was written and a plan for deployment was made. You'll see the fix in 7.7.3 release, which should happen soon.

I have not upgraded yet from 7.7.1 > 7.7.2
Now that I read above about the 7.7.3 fix I'm thinking of waiting since we have 10000+ members
So should I wait for 7.7.3 or do the 7.7.2 upgrade anyway?

Go ahead and upgrade anyway. As this issue only affects a single script when being used to search members in the administrator control panel as 1/ "search without entering any search terms" and 2/ "search members by email address." Everything about 7.7.2 is an upgrade or fixes multiple other issues.

If you cannot wait until 7.7.3 is released, and absolutely need to "CP: Admin > Member > Search By Email Address", you can probably use the /admin/membermanage.php file from 7.7.1 (i've not tested this).

Note:
UBB.threads 7.7.3 includes substantially updated Admin > Member Search code and results page.
