We have a number of users who are no longer active and changed email addresses. Unfortunately when someone posts in a forum, there are bounce back messages the admin receives for invalid email addresses. In the admin area I have logged in to the profile section for users and unchecked all the email options but still get the bounce backs for followed forums.

How can an administrator unfollow a forum for an inactive user to stop the bounce back emails?

You should not maintain your database with raw commands, doing so could invalidate your access to official support. We recommend that you "Become User" to do any tasks which are not available in the Control Panel.

I am a Web Development Contractor, I do not work for UBBCentral. I have provided free User to User Support since the beginning of these support forums.
Do you need Forum Install or Upgrade Services?

When editing as a user there are really several areas they can set for emails.
One is preferences.
Send me an email when a new post to a forum, thread, or by a user within my Follow Lists is created
Yes No

From time to time we send out emails regarding this community. Do you wish to receive these emails
Yes No

Yes No
They should be set to no.
Also below that section is a few extras depending on their status with the forum Like.
Moderator and Administrator Email Notifications
Email me when a post needs to be approved in a forum I moderate
Yes No

Email me when a user uses the "Report Post" option. These are usually sent only to Moderators
Yes No

Email me for user account related administrative actions such as:
- When a user accesses multiple accounts.
- Forum display name change requests.
Yes No
They should be set to no

Then in that users settings is follow lists.
They are follow user, posts, forum.
You would need to edit each tab and set all of the items to no notification or delete all of them.

But to be honest the preferences section should be all you need if you set all the settings noted above to no.

several of the items ruben mentioned are ADMIN ONLY mail notification settings that can only be changed within the control pannel, or only displayed in the "Moderator and Administrator Email Notifications" settings prefeences page to users with MODERATOR or higher access.

general users will not have these items set. it is advised to remove moderator and admin privileges from users thst have not logged in for a long time, and have current staff use current contact email addresses.

1. search for the bounced email address here

2. go to the PREFERENCES tab of the result. and uncheck all of these items.

3. click UPDATE MEMBER.

You are done 👍

Do this each time a bounced email comes back. if you have not done it in a while, it may take you a bit of time to complete. Thats it.
