Is there a way to allow registered users to add information to their profile, so that underneath their Avatar, when they post, it shows more than: date joined, post count, likes and geographic location?
I'm hoping to add a few custom fields, which would either allow users to select a model of car from a drop down menu or at least type their own car model into it. Also, perhaps a second option to add year of vehicle.
Have tried to see if there was a simple way to do it but can't seem to find it.
Yes, if enabled in the Control Panel there are 5 custom input areas for data retention (CP -> Users -> Registration -> Registration Screen Tab -> "Custom Fields" section).
Here we use them just for requesting your forum URL, but at my gardening forum I use them for asking about my users hardiness zones, gardens, gender, real name, plants, etc. I modified my input page (being the edit profile page) to allow a textarea for these fields (through code modification, which aren't supported from the vendor). One could also add additional fields if they were comfortable with editing code and the backend database (but again these changes are not supported by the vendor).
Hi Gizmo, thank you - I did find this screen before asking, however, when I tried testing it, it didn't give existing members the chance to add info. When enabled, will it only allow new registrations to do that?
Also, what I was hoping was a way to add info under the Users Display photo... as in here:
