I have a pre-existing membership SQL database that is used by my site. Does UBB.threads have any APIs that allow me to use my existing database for authentication?

If not, any suggestions or war stories from people who have rigged this up (i.e. periodic database synchronization, etc)

There's no APi for threads.
I do it the other way round for my site. I built a user class that is able to map any database that has a primary key, username and password in it. I simply map it to the ubb.threads user table and use authentication.

I don't think that we will be able to do that --- there are way too many hooks to the "primary" database.

As I understand from InfoPop, it is "in theory" possible to tweak the queries so that they authenticate from an external database. This sounds like a lot of work though. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" />

Another option would be enable some sort of data replication between the primary (in our case Oracle) database and the MySQL database. Anyone have any experience w/ building a replication bridge between these databases?

It's possible, sure. The necessary changes depend on the demands you have.
