Sorry if this is a FAQ, but I can't find the answer.

What are the optimal MySQL settings for a high-volume UBBThreads message board?

We have over 21,000 users, and are adding about 50 a day. About 900 distinct users log in per day.

Stats show 455 postings in last 24 hours, 2898 in last week, 14020 in last month. Total of 46278 topics and 204538 replies.

I believe that you can check mysqlcnf.huge or something along those lines for guidelines.

However these settings will vary with your server, it's capacity and how your MySQL database is already being utilized by the rest of your website.
