Hi, My 2 of my forums users have recently had problems posting messages on my forum. Thye have had this error:

quote:
The host you are trying to send the input from is not a valid host

I have logged in as them on my pc and posted messages and had no problems. Others users are also not having any problems, it's just 2 users. Any ideas?

Thanks
Laura

This is a problem when users firewalls are blocking their HTTP headers so they can't be authenticated.

To fix, you can either turn off the referrer check in the Config Settings, or they can tweak their firewall settings to see your site as 'friendly'.

As Kristi said, you need to edit the settings. Ask them to add the url to their firewall and set it to share visited sites.

If you're using Zone Alarm Pro version 3.x, try this:

Privacy >> 3rd Party Cookies >> Uncheck "Remove Private Header Info" >> Apply.

If that doesn't work, contact ZoneLabs and ask them how to stop Zone Alarm from blocking output of the HTTP_REFERER header.

Please post the outcome here.

Zone Alarm/ Firewalls and a wide variety of thrid-party cookie management tools cause trouble for the Referer checking and a wide variety of other things, too.

We have tried to cover a few of them here:

Browser Problems - ubb.threads and ubb.classic

That Browser Problems article doesn't cover Zone Alarm. That's why I posted the above info, which I found by a web search. (I can't verify the accuracy, since I no longer use Zone Alarm myself, due to incompetent support by Zone Labs.) The Zone Alarm setting is particularly obscure, located under "cookies".

If Dave's stuff doesn't work - I have some Zone Alarm instructions in my version of the Browser Problems document in the How To Library at ThreadsDev.

http://www.threadsdev.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=55209

1. Begin at ZoneAlarm Pro Control Center (if ZAP is minimized to tray, simply right click on the "ZA" symbol and choose "Restore ZoneAlarm Pro Control Center".)

2. From left-hand column, choose "Privacy" (below "Alerts & Logs" and above "Email Protection".)

3. Click menu tab that says "Site List" (next to "Main", under "Help", in right-hand corner.)

4. Click on "Add" button on bottom right corner of Control Center (above "Options".)

5. A box pops up that says "Add sites to your privacy list by entering the URL below" and then asks for "URL".
Type in the URL for the site like: www.ThisSite.com

6. Click "OK".

7. Locate the site you just entered in the list of sites and right click anywhere on that line. You are given the choice of "Remove" and "Options". Choose "Options".

8. You are given the options for the site you just entered. Under the "Cookies" menu, go to the "3rd Party Cookies" section. Uncheck "Remove Private Header Information". Click "Apply" at bottom. Click "OK" at bottom.

If you actually made it through, you should now be able to post at the site you entered without having to disable ZAP or getting the "invalid host" error.
