I would like to get your thoughts on this one gang...

My forums are tailored to a particular General Motors' platform vehicle (F-Body). We are working on php coding to allow a member of the message board to click on his "My Home" and edit new fields that we are adding into a new table for our database (MySQL). The fields in the new table include but not limited to 8th Mile Estimated Time, 1/4 Mile Estimated Time, etc. We'd like to add an href into the "My Home" page that will take the user to a new page in .php that will read their cookie and know who the member is and go to their profile to allow them to add and edit these new fields in the new table.

My question to the community is...has anyone done this before? We are definitely getting the code all narrowed down, but I'd like to see how others have tackled this....or I'd like any input from the more knowledgeable members on what they think of this idea.

I've done lots of this type of stuff. It's defaintely neater to use a separate table to hold the data... and having unique scripts to input the info makes upgrading easier.

You can customize thos threads to look like threads simply by including the main.inc.php file and sending the threads headers.

I built a site which uses threads as a back end - yet is not a message board.... it's a travel agency. The client loves it. www.myseaadventures.com

When I had a website I was running .threads. I added piles of stuff but I always added it to seperate tables. That way when I updated my threads board, and I did often, I didn't have to worry about the altertables script breaking something or worse, my changes making an altertable script bomb.
