I was wondering if there was an easy way of say having 2 different installations and splitting the Post database (so 2 different DBs for the installations) but the both of them use the same username database. Do i need to edit each file of one of the installations? If anyone has done this please let me know.
Thanks

I think Stratics might do something like this but I'm not sure. Right off hand I think you would need to edit each file that queries the w3t_Users table. You would probably need to open up the database connection to the database that contains the common w3t_Users table and then query that database instead of the default one.

Hmm I think you have it reversed. I want to maintain the same User tables but not the posts and catagory ones.
So lets say for argument sake I wanted to have 2 different boards. One called Automotive and another called Cats.
Obviously I don't want the cats catagories to show in automobiles and with automobiles in cats. But I want to make it simple for my users so that they have the same login information for both boards.
So my question is which tables have to do with user data that shouldn't be changed.
Unless I'm missing something I think I have it right <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" /> In order to maintain a single user table you would need to alter all parts that query the w3t_Users table. For instance:
Forum 1 runs with the following database: Database 1: contains forum A and B and the w3t_Users table.
Forum 2 uses this database: Database 2: contains forum C and D
You would need to alter forum 2 to query against the w3t_Users table that forum 1 is using.

So when I install the next forum software all I need to do is create the necessary tables which would be everything other than w3t_Users and then I would edit each file in UBBThreads so that the forums point to the correct tables. =) I think we got it now...

No, those tables can stay in each database. You'd just need to grep for all instances of w3t_Users. This would give you a list of all files that query the w3t_Users table. Then you would need to make the necessary changes in those files to query the proper database.
This is something that I will try to get in as an option when I start working on site integration.

I think I figured out what is the miscommunication (Unless I am crazy! =)) This will all be ran from one database but I want separate tables so that the users table remains the same for both forums BUT there would be two post tables which would be posttableA for forumA and posttableB for forumB.

Ah, out of one database. That would take a bit more editing. By default all tables start with a w3t_ prefix. You would need to create new tables for everything except the w3t_Users and call them with a prefix of something like w3t2_. Then in the second installation you would need to search for all instances of w3t_ (except for w3t_Users) and change them to w3t2_.

These 3 would probably need to be changed because they are pretty much forum specific.
w3t_Favorites w3t_Moderators w3t_Subscribe
Yep, he w3t_Banned one you can keep as normal if you want them to be banned on both installations. w3t_Addressbook can stay as is because this is basically dealing with users.

I totaly understand what needs to be done to get this to work but can anyone give me an example on what to put in the code, my PHP is not the best. Any help would be appreciated as it's something I would like to do also.
