I can log in to any of my UBB thread accounts, but once I get to "my home" screen, if I go to "Admin", it says "To access this section you must first be logged in. You will be taken to the login screen shortly."

If I click "my home" again, it goes back to the "login" screen...

I guess basically it is not seeing me as logged in. In fact if I go to "who's online" it show me listed as "logging in".

I haven't touched any of my settings for a few months now and everything was running fine. I even tried to create a new profile with a new email address and I can't stay logged in with that new profile either. I went into the database manually to make sure all the tables are still there and they are so I can't figure out what the hell is wrong...

Anyone have any ideas???

Sounds like one of two things.

1) Your browser is not accepting cookies. Make sure your browser is accepting them.

Since it worked for you before, number 2 is probably more likely.
2) Your cookies are corrupt.... try logging out, manually deleting them, then logging back in. Also, make sure you use the same domain consistantly.... for example, don't use www.mydomain.com and mydomain.com (without the www) interchangeably. That'll confuse the cookies. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

I have detailed instructions for deleting cookies posted here at threadsdev. You'll need to login/register there to see it.

Hope that helps. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Well the good news is, the URL you listed for me to log into is doing the same thing. I can log in to the point where I get to "my home" and then anything I do from there says "Login Name/Password not found.". The funny thing is this board, which I assume is not UBB Threads, doesn't do it, while the one I am logging into at your link "HERE" is doing the same thing and I cant log in...

So can you repost what you have listed because I cannot log into that link you provided to actually check what you have posted...

Do you think perhaps my browser is messed up? I have the settings for privacy set to what info pop recommends. I can only assume a I have a bad cookie, but I cant follow your instructions to clear them <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" />

Well OK -

I have posted that document here on this site.

This site is not running UBB.Threads... it uses Open Topic which is different.

You may have a corrupt cookie... BUT given now that you can't register/login at a different threads site, now I tend to lead towards a browser problem... as cookies are site specific.

Did you make any recent upgrades/setting changes to your browser.

My bet would be one of two things:
- the browser isn't accepting cookies
- the security settings/firewall are set too high (too secure) and it's preventing the 2 way communication needed for login.

That link I posted above might help.... or Browser Problems might help as well.

Let us know if something worked. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Well,

Thanks for your help so far. I can log into this board fine with no problems and stay logged in. I have no idea what is causing the UBB Threads problem. At first I thought it was just my website, but now it turns out that I cant log into ANY board that is running UBB Threads. I haven't changed anything and I have checked my settings in IE about 5 times now. I can't take this anymore tonight, I'm going to bed <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" /> If I can figure out what happened tomorrow, I will post a message back letting you know what fixed it. By the way, I just re-installed IE6 Service Pack 1 and it didn't help. I have no idea what is causing this other than I think it's cookie related...

Thanks for your help so far <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

GOD THIS PISSES ME OFF!!!!!!!!!!!

You might try going here:

http://www.threadsdev.com/threads/php/mycookies.php

Then click "expire cookies". That will dump all your threadsdev cookies. Then see if you can log in there.

Also make sure your computer's date and time is correct. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Otherwise I lean towards firewall, or cookie acceptance issue.

Good luck.

Dude,

I have NO IDEA what happened or why. The only way I can get the UBB Threads Forums to work on my PC now are with Netscape 7.0

I installed it and I can use UBB Threads Forums now...

This is the strangest problem I have seen yet. My Internet Explorer Version 6 has always been very buggy though...

What a crappy way to have to fix a problem...

I would expect that it's IE's settings somewhere causing trouble.

You might try reinstalling it if it's possible.

I agree... Netscape is no fun. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

In Internet Explorer did you go to Tools / Internet Options / and click on "delete cookies"?

Then go to Tools / Internet Options/ click on the security tab / and make sure user data persistance is enabled.

Something very intersting happened... I had checked the date when you originally told me to check it by rolling my mouse over the time and waiting for the date to pop up. Indeed it said February... when I double clicked it to go in and check my time zone, it said March. That was causing the whole problem I guess... Here is a REALLY stupid question... Why was Netscape Navigator working with the wrong date, but Internet explorer wasn't ??? That makes no sense. I also wonder how it's possible that the rollover popup was saying February and the Actual date set screen was saying March?????????

That's really wierd that Netscape lets you login but IE doesn't...

Thanks for all your help guys!!!

From now on you may want to suggest people set their date to something else, then set it back to what it should be, then click apply or something <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Also, my time zone was off as well. I know it was set correctly about a month ago... Is there a program that can go in and mess with that????????

Thanks for the tip. Glad you got it working. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

I don't know why Netscape didn't have the same trouble. It must handle cookie expiration differently. But with the date wrong, the cookies expire too soon.

Usually netscape is more buggy than IE. Go figure. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" />

If you guys ever re-work that... you'd be welcome to add the "how to delete your cookies" stuff from mine. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Josh - thank you - we rework that article several times a year it seems and I will forward this to myself to either create a new article about cookie deletion including your article or just slide that into the Browser Problems article <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
