Very new to UBB Threads. In fact, I downloaded and installed everything (PHP, MySQL, MyPHPAdmin, UBB Threads trial) last night.
I am going through the UBB Threads installation and am stuck at step 2. I put in the name of the database server, the database name, database user and password and when I click "Check Database Settings" it tells me it failed connecting to server and database.
I am running it on a Windows 2000 server with IIS 5.0. I followed the instructions regarding "Installing and using PhPMyAdmin" and am supplying the database name, server and user and password that I used following through that document.

Any ideas?

Have you verified that the mysql server is actually running? You'll want to check that, and then also make sure that you have setup permissions for the database properly for the username/password and host that is connecting the mysql server. Those are usually the most common errors during install. We can start getting more specific on direction if both of those are verified.

Thanks for replying.
I would assume that MySQL is running because I can connect to it and make modifications through PhpMyAdmin.
As far as the username and password being setup right, I followed explicitly the instructions on the UBBThreads site titled "Installing and using PhPMyAdmin". I even dumped that username and re-added it following the instructions.

Hmm, is your phpmyadmin install running on the same domain name as your threads install? What are you putting in for the database server value? Not too much can go wrong in this area, so I'm not exactly sure what would be causing it. This might be something we'd have to look at in a ticket since we'd need db username and password to test.

PhyMyAdmin is running on the same server that has MySQL as well as UbbThreads.
For database server, I have put in the netbios name, the FQDN, the IP address and localhost.

I know it seems very weird to me too. I understand the concept and what is going on and to me, everything is plugged in, turned on and ready to go but then it hiccups.

Are you able to connect to that database from a mysql command prompt. When you install mysql there is one exe installed that allows you to connect to the mysql server directly from a command prompt. If you can use that then we can get more info if the username/password are being accepted properly.

Not exactly sure where it's been installed at, but if you open up a command window and CD into the directory that the mysql utilities were installed then you should be able to type:

mysql.exe databasename -uyourusername -p

Change databasename to the actual name of your database. yourusername will be the user you setup. At that point it should prompt you for a password. If it allows you in then that verifies that the username/password were setup correctly. If not, then we not it's something in that area.

And for the database server you should probably use the IP address of your server.

Could not get in. So, I went back to view the users and noticed that the password for the user I set up was not encrypted.
So, I deleted the user and followed the instructions again. I had forgotten in step 11 to set the drop down to be "Password".
Once I did that and followed through, it worked.
I'll follow through the rest of the install steps and let you know if I have further problems.
Thanks!
