I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but with this upgrade, do I run the 6.3-6.4 altertable and then the 6.4-6.4.1 altertable?

I hate upgrades and want to make sure I do everything right...

Yes.

Best bet... open UPGRADING.html in your browser. Find your version, read what it says first, do what is says, then go upwards from there until you get to the top

OK. And I read that the broswer might timeout when running the altertable scripts...

How do you know when it is done then?

The last time I did this, I only had to run one, so it wasn't a big deal. But if I have to run two different altertables, if they time out, I need to know when one is done before running the next one, right?

And is there a php setting that can help to avoid the timeouts? I seem to remember something about that too, but have since moved to a new server, where I don't think I changed that setting.

If the browser times out, you can view a MySQL processlist in something like phpMyAdmin to see when it's finished.

You can control the PHP timeout with the max_execution varaible in the php.ini file of your PHP install. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Another option is if you have shell access to your server, run the altertables from the command line. Then there's no ambiguity about when it's done and no timeout.
