The encoding is accomplished via meta tag right?

If so, use the HeaderInsert variable in styles in the CP..

OK! I always use meta tag <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1251">, but it is not working in UBB 6.0 beta7.* <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I'm experiencing the problem, which is the usage of ISO charset by UBB6 pages. It doesn't care for any meta charset codes, and the only way to set your own encoding is manual.
I'm using following meta tag on my UBB6 (beta 7.9), which works just perfectly on UBB5 (5.47d):
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1251">
Please look into the problem. If it already been solved, please point out what's needed to be done to use custom charsets.

You never did post the URL to your board (exact URL to ultimatebb.cgi please <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> ), which could prove most helpful! <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hmm, looks ok in the HTML.

I don't really know what to look for in terms of effect though...

Don't suppose you have a working UBB5.x still running somewhere we could compare with?

(I am shooting in the dark here - if anyone else has any ideas, they'd be most welcome!)

Please look to the ubb5.47c on the same server http://64.177.11.178/cgi-bin/ulver5/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro, which in Cirillic (Windows) from <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1251">!

...but UBB6 always in ISO charset <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I just forwarded this on to Navaho for an opinion (CC'ed you on my email).

I won't elaborate here - the contents are irrelevant except to the 3 of us.

Feel free to reply directly via email or here.

(Of course, that previous comment about email only applies to Demiurg - I do NOT offer general UBB support via email OR PM!!!)

Navaho is working on it, and I'm completely stumped..

My guess is at this point, none of the alternate charsets are working, although that is purely speculation. It must have something to do with the exact placement of the META tag, but beyond that, I don't know..

Haven't forgotten you though.. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> (I have this thread bookmarked just in case it slips down below the line for too long)

I'm pretty sure it is the meta tag placement. Still working on it.

Your coding works ... even if they get gibberish just tell your members to go to view --> encoding and choose the Cyrillic Windows font ... I had the same problem with greek and this helped ... even if you have char in the Meta tags sometimes the browser won't pick it up and therefore you need to encode the page ...

hope this helps ...

What's really bizarre is my browser picked it up for UBB5 but not UBB6 - the SAME meta tag..

Don Toni, <META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1250"> is not working too <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Spirit_II, I don't want to choose the Cyrillic Windows font on every page of my UBB!!!

Graeme, waiting for next beta (or final?) with fix of this big problem <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

This will solve your problem:

Look for this in the next released beta (8.3).

Hi

It still does not work using language meta tag in beta 8.3

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">

It still has to be changed manually the encoding. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Note: to display correctly the language encoding must be the same when posting a topic or reading it. ie The language meta tag must be set at the input box as well.

Please fix it
Regards,
Thank You
RRR
