Nice work everyone.. this version of UBB is so much nicer than 5.41a was in customizing. In our testing, we have a come up with a couple of questions...

- How does one allow posters more than 8 graemlins in a post? I can't find the option for that. We want to allow for "Smiley theater" and general goofing around with em.

- One admin wants to know if the posting rights/icon legend can be turned off somehow.

Hi, couple more questions... these are things VBulletin seems to do out of the box, so can UBB do em?

- Is there any way to let the users know if they have private messages? Not just by e-mail, but by some form of visible post indicator on the summary page.

- And I'll guess it'd take a hack, but can the board display users' birthdays?

Question 2 (the one I assume was left out) should just be a simple template modification to public_forum_page.pl (assuming you want to modify the ubb=forum page - I think that's what you meant)

Well, I didn't phrase it in the form of a question, but yes it was...

For birthdays, I wrote a perl script that will extract all birthdays for the current month (only if the user has "allowed" birthday display), and displays the month/day, and their pdn (as a link to their profile).

All you'd need to do is plug in your paths, modify the html to format it the way you want, then put a link to it in your forum headers.

You can remove the test for "current month" if you want to show them for the whole year. Let me know if you'd like a copy.

Ooooo.. sounds good. Yes please... I would like to see it. We are installing the board "live" later this week, so we'd rather not risk messing up the support option till it's all running properly.

Okay. You understand, this is *not* a hack, it's a "stand alone" script that reads the member files and displays the results in an HTML page.

If you'll email me, I'll send it to you, along with how it's implemented and try to answer any questions you might have.

Why don't we have these features?

The 8 image limit is on purpose - image & graemlin floods were common on many boards, resulting in the limit.

The posting rights & icon legend are sort of considered nessecary functionality, so there is no toggle for them yet. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

The UBB uses a page cache system - almost nothing is generated on the fly by the scripts. Because of this, we can't dynamically add or remove content, such as a PM alert. We're working on this using other methods to provide an alert without breaking the cache.

And finally, though we do record birthdates and make them available when viewing a user profile, it does take the calendar hack to do something such as providing an alert for today's birthdays.

We have a list of hundreds upon hundreds of features that we'd like to get done - and there's only so many we can squeeze into each release without spending far too long getting them done. Well, maybe this should go on the requests board, but it'd be nice if we users could edit the graemlins number.
