This may sound odd... oh well. Is there a way to change the 24 hour time period on "Today's Active Topics?"

Instead of just one day, maybe a day and a half?

... hehe, then it wouldn't be "Today's" Active Topics.

Not in the stock UBB, though changes have long been requested to the active topics function.
