Hello, I have just installed my UBB 6 and I was wondering if there was a way to disable the "Publicly Displayed Names" feature all together. I find it rather not necessary, and a bit confusing. Is there a way to disable this and have members display simply their login names? Thanks.

Currently there is no feature to "disable" the publically displayed name and only show the login name. You could suggest your members just use the same name in both spots.. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The closest you can get is:
1) Turn it off in the CP.
2) Hide the field in public_register_page.pl (and the kid version as well).

I didn't see an option in the CP, maybe I just missed it--what category is it under?

How would you hide the fields in public_register_page.pl?

Thanks again,

In the CP, you can allow or disallow the changing by the user of publically displayed names, but the feature itself (to my knowledge) cannot be switched off.

Yes, you can, go to Misc settings, and find this:

Doesn't that prevent them from CHANGING their Publicly Displayed Name after they have created it? I don't think it actually turns the feature off...

Nope, it keeps the publicly displayed name the same as the Login name.

Which, in turn is essentially the same thing as turning it off.

Wait a minute..

It prevents users from CHANGING their PDN.

You then take this a step further and edit the template I mentioned, deleting the HTML which asks for the public name. You're looking for the following text in that HTML to give you a hint as to where it is:
$vars_wordlets{public_name_field}

Thanks, I got rid of it on the Registration Page. ^_^

Now, is there any way to rid it from the already registered members?

Thanks.

Manually or using a script, edit their member files to set the PDN line (#16 I think) equal to the username (line 1)
