In recovering from the file corruption by my host a few weeks ago, I noticed some problems with the PMs of a few users.

Some have extra messages that aren’t theirs but they can’t delete. Some users are just generally messed up. Even I have had a weird problem for a long time now. My Sent Messages count is 13, but I only have 12 in the list. Even if I remove them all, my count is still 1.

What are my options for correcting these situations? A rebuild feature in the CP would be nice, but I don’t want to wait for the next version (or two) of UBB.classic. Actually, I’m surprised there isn’t already a rebuild option available along with the current maintenance options.

I think it would be like brain surgery to try to correct their problems. A better solution would be to wipe all their PMs completely. But if someone responded to one of their old, lost PMs, what would happen? Anyway, is it even possible to wipe a person’s PMs?

What should I do?

You can run a
repair table w3t_Messages
and that MAY improve the situation. If not see what the last clean backup your host has where everyones messages is intact and you may have to roll the whole thing back to that - which may not be any fun at all.

If you wanted to dump the whole thing and start over (not a bad idea) ask everyone to whom it's important to print out what's crital to them or make a note of whom they were speaking to and about what and then run this:
delete from w3t_Messages
You can also try
truncate table w3t_Messages

This presumes that your default table prefix is w3t_

I think you're confused with .threads Brett. He's a .classic user.

To answer the question:

Sometimes the PM count will not be accurate if a user is missing.

Replying to the ticket we have open would also be a wise idea. We have a basic PM inbox rebuilder which may help.

The PM rebuilder isn't a downloadable tool, as it currently really rough around the edges. It's only used internally by us, so I can run it on your board, if you reply to that ticket...
