All my forums require registered users.

I noticed the other day that a thread showed a unregistered user had posted. I thought reindexing would clean it up later and didn't think much of it.

Now a user contacted me saying, why did I delete his account.

I checked his account and it was fine and let him know that.

Then he explained all his posts that he previously did are showing as unregistered.
And he can't log on.

So I did a Reindex and clear all cache.

Then I go and look at his account again and it's gone !

I'm the only moderator of the entire system.

How can I recreate his account using his old ID?

Any ideas what can cause this?

Classic 6.7.2 running on linux servers.

You can manually add it back in using a text editor, then update the email file and user index file - I've done this in the past. Rebuilding/ reindexing should clear it up then.

This has happened to me 5 times in the last couple months and is getting old fast.

Is this going to get fixed?

A reply after 2 weeks is getting old too.

Maybe someone has your password? Change it.

Come on, be real.

If someone had a password and wanted to cause trouble do you think they would randomly pick one a account once a week and mess it up?

Actually what happens more precisely is.

User suddenly cannot Login.

All Posts by that user show as unregistered.

Checking member list that user is still their and their member file is their. Clear caches does nothing.

When in this state I reindex and then the member file is gone and the user no longer exists.

To fix I add the user again, rename the member file to the old ID and reindex.

Is it possible that you are running out of disk space on the server? Are you seeing any error messages when browsing your forums?

If you require immediate assistance, the fastest way is to fill out a support ticket

The "user posts show as unregistered" happens when the profile is no longer presant.

But it does sound like you're running out of space, could you go check how much you have available? (BEFORE CLEARING CACHE as the cache can get large space wise and clearing it before you check your space will be completely useless)

This is a HUGE shared server. www.hostexcellence.com I doubt it's running out of space.

Since it has not happened to me I don't know if an error popped up on the user.

I just suddenly get a complaint the account is corrupted.

The Profile *IS* there (on the disk) but after I reindex it's deleted by the UBB control panel. Does it every time.

Is it the same user each time or a different one?

While the server may be huge, it's possible there's some sort of hard limit on the space your site can use. Usually can been seen if you are bumping up against the limit in the site's control panel.

BTW, "thanks for the reply" goes a long ways as well - attitude gets old too <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Yes absolutely, I've been up against this when my board was hosted by a less lenient host.

I kept on running into all sorts of 'weirdness' - which the host put down to partition errors.

My new host never experiences this - odd, eh?

I'm using 378MB out of 3000MB. You're barking up the wrong tree.

I've never had a complaint that a user could not post a message. Just that their account disappeared.

It's not a server space issue.

Is it possible that they are limiting the number of files you are allowed on disk? That could cause a similar behavior. You would expect it to return a Quota error, but sometimes they do nutty things to the OS. That is an angle worth investigating.

Again if I was running into any kind of file limitation size or quantity, posts would be failing left and right. They are not, they are working fine. I just randomly lose the account.

It's been a different user each time.

Have you ever noticed your boards returning blank pages, Internal Server Errors, timeouts, etc? Due to the way our file locking system works, it is impossible for files to be clobbered by internal processes. The only things that can cause member files to be blanked out would be killing the UBB process between the time it opens/truncates the file and has a chance to write to it, or an out of space condition.
