I am in the process of changing an existing board to a new hosting service. My domain name will remain the same but has not yet been transferred to the new server. I have followed your instructions and I am relatively sure it is going to work.
Using my IP address not my domain address, I have run the hello.pl and and the hello.cgi and they both work.
The ubb_test.cgi script will not run.
It is in the same folder as the hellos and it permissioned correctly.
Any ideas anyone?

Please post the url to these files so we can take a look first hand at the error messages.

Very interesting, what FTP software are you using to upload? If you happen to be using CuteFTP, could you give WS_FTP LE a try on uploading the ubb_test.cgi script? Also, who is your new host (url to their site) so we can see if there is a CGI FAQ.

I normally use LeechFTP 1.31.
I have never before encountered this.

I uploaded it again using WS_FTP LE as you suggested and now it works.
I did need to CHMOD it.

I guess all FTP clients are not created equal.
