Hi, everybody,

I'm using v5.43a, which I love. About a week ago, all of the ubb files disappeared off of my ISP's server, with the exception of the Members directory and the .cgi scripts that run the board. All of the /Forum12, and the /HTML, and the /ANNC, and the image files, everything just gone.

I was backed up, so I restored the files (WHEW!). The ISP said not to let files or directories be publicly writable, but of course we need chmod 777's so people can post. The ISP thinks I was hacked.

Does this sound like a malicious attack or something goofy going on at the ISP? Can someone put some statements into a post that would cause these deletions, and is there anything I can do to meaningfully increase security if that is a problem?

Could be.

The version you're using has some fairly well known security holes. You should definitely upgrade.
