Another superb mod from the boys over at threadsdev is the Teaser forum.
Basically it allows you to have a forum displayed in the index but users who do not have permissions cannot access it, so people know it exist, but cannot use it.. so in theory encourages them to do whatever it is that is required to get access.
Any chance this can be added out of the box?

Let me see if I understand (as what I think you're wanting is an old classic feature, which I too miss).
You want the ability for private forums to be SEEN in the index, by everyone, including those who cannot access it; then for those who cannot access it, it will error out.
If so, I concour whole heartedly (as it helps with posting for VIP forums and the like).

Yes, exactly ole bean.. that way, people are forced to read the "Access Denied" message which you customize with your "contribute to help us and you can have access" kinda thing.
Gives people something to want.. if they cant see it, then they dont know they're missing anything.
Please please please bring it back.

Yes, this is definately a feature that I miss from the UBB; it gets people interested in contributing as they have soemthing to earn versus just chilling about and wondering if something exists...

I would dearly love this feature as well! There is a vendor feedback forum I'd like to add to my site, but want people (especially vendors) to read and agree to a legal disclaimer that, if thay get access, they won't sue before they can access teh forum. So, I'd really like to see the ability to have a forum which can be seen in the index, but must have permission to access. As an option, the forum could also be password-protected and only members with the PW can access.
