as a forum grows the most common usernames are taken up. As a result the new user may have to return to the registration form multiple times. First of all it will error and say display name is taken - so a different display name is chosen - if this is accepted then, often the login name is already in use, causing a second error page. it would be nice if both these options could be checked at the same time - avoiding multiple errors. At the same time - if a username or display name is taken, then maybe if the software could suggest a couple of alternatives or if not then on the error page have a box to enter a new username and display name (as required) - which is then takena and entered on the registration page. This would make life easier for someone registering as everytime they are returned they have to re-enter their password twice to get the details checked. Hope this makes sense

I like the option in other signup pages, where a user can click "Check Availability" and it shows it the name is available or not... I'd love this functionality to come to the UBB...

I agree but I like some I've seen that actually do a semi-live lookup as you type your name (I'd cache that data instead of live DB hit) and it changes from green to red if the name is taken. It also checks if you input your password or e-mail differently in a second box. Great suggestion - adds a bit more polish to an already great application. :thumbs up: .

I love the live password comparison on some, that'd be sweet...
Immagine, users would never whine about screwing up a registration by either entering in a existing name/pdn or missmatching a password...

We'll definitely be taking advantage of javascript/ajax to improve the registration process.
