Original Apple II Mini Manual 1977 - Very Rare - For Rev 0 - Pre Red Book Woz
Price: US $1399.00
This is an extremely scarce "Apple II Mini Manual" - the original hand-assembled photocopied user manual that accompanied only the earliest Apple II computers in 1977. It predates the desirable "Red Book" (Apple II Reference Manual).
From Steven Weyhrich's authoritative history of the Apple II:
"Documentation for the Apple II was initially very limited...To provide some sort of documentation for customers, Apple’s president, Mike Scott, had gone through desk drawers at night to find anything that looked like technical information about the computer, whether typed or handwritten. These notes, about thirty pages in all (some of which were included in the Woz Wonderbook) were photocopied, three-hole punched, and assembled in clear binders. This mini-manual was dropped in the box with each of the earliest Apple II computers that were sold."
Includes hardware information, schematics, diagrams, Integer BASIC instructions, sample BASIC program listings including Pong and Breakout (Steve Wozniak's "killer app" for the computer!). The "Color Math" program has first Apple chairman Mike Markkula's name in the comments. Includes a section "Getting Started with your Apple II Board" for the very few customers who purchased the logic board as a separate product, only available at the very beginning of the product's existence.
Original red cardstock folder contains (I count) 67 pages of material inside. Section divider/contents pages are copied on yellow paper, other paper is white. Note that the Apple II marketing brochure that acted as the "cover" of the mini manual was removed from this copy. Condition is well-used. The folder has significant cracks to the plastic cover sheet and one grommet seems to have come free. The pages show some staining in places, and handwritten page numbers which have been blacked out in marker are present throughout. In context these condition issues seem minor and I don't believe detract from this incredibly hard to come by artifact from the early months of arguably Apple's (and Wozniak's) most historically significant product. Please see photos. As-is.
Unclear how many systems/boards were shipped with this manual but from what I can discern, it would *only* have accompanied Rev 0 computers, but not even all of those, since it had already been replaced by the Red Book by the start of 1978.
If you have an early Rev 0 Apple II in your collection, this would be the manual to accompany it. Free shipping in the US. Will be packed extremely carefully and shipped insured.
