PowerEdge T410 - 2 proc, 96GB, iDRAC6, PCIE RAID w/cbl, 8TB storage, 8GB vFlash
Price: US $850.00
Hello! The item for sale is a used/refurbished Dell PowerEdge T410.
System Specs:
  • 2x Intel Xeon X5660 2.8ghz 6 core (12 thread) processors
  • 96GB PC3-10600R ECC memory *
  • iDRAC6 Enterprise (full remote management/console)
  • 8GB vFlash SD card for the iDRAC6
  • LSI 9260-8i PCI-Express RAID card, with cables
  • 4x 2TB HDD (8TB total storage)
* DIMMs installed in \'non-optimal\' channel config but fully operational, see comments below.I got this system to run a VMware ESXi host in a home-lab setup. It originally came only with 32gb memory, no iDRAC, and no PCI-E RAID. The 8TB storage is pre-configured as a drive connected to the on-board software RAID controller into a single array, not sure what configuration (RAID 0, 1, 5, etc).
Since ESXi will not recognize software raid arrays, I added the PCI-E RAID card to work with the 2x 1TB SSD\'s I had already been planning to use for my datastore, never ended up using the 4x HDD\'s but they all power up and are recognized by the system just fine.
I added the additional memory because of the number of VM\'s I was going to be running, though admittedly I didn\'t do my homework and just grabbed a matching set of DDR3 registered ECC DIMMS to fill the empty slots. Unfortunately this is a \'non-optimal configuration\' since Dell built this system to have 3 slots on one channel and 1 slot on a second channel rather than a 2x2 configuration. However all modules are functional and accessible for use granting the system access to all 96GB of memory.
I also added the iDRAC6 modules (express, enterprise, and vflash) so that it was able to be completely remote managed, having to throw a monitor on it every time you want to touch it is just silly.
In the end this system ran VMware ESXi 6.5 update 3 for me as a home-lab VM host flawlessly, thanks to the the Xeon X5660 processor being on the official supported list. You MIGHT be able to run 6.7, but it is no longer on the official support matrix and it may complain about legacy equipment. I am selling it off now because I did a hardware refresh and have newer equipment, but this server is still 100% functional and has plenty of life in it; the iDRAC, memory, and RAID card I added should provide plenty of capability for the next owner. If you\'re in the Central Texas area (vicinity of Austin, San Antonio, Temple) a drop-off/pickup can be arranged to skip shipping fees - msg me to arrange it.
