Edit and sequence up to 100 samples with the Korg Volca Digital Sample Sequencer. This white electronic music synthesizer (EMS) comes with 16 step-keys, active steps and step jump functions, and a motion sequencer that can change the way sound plays back. The sequencer's reverse function allows music to be played backward. Moreover, the EMS has a built-in speaker and a MIDI-in connector for easy connection. The Korg Volca operates with 6 AA batteries.

No excuse keeping me from bringing it everywhere
Endless possibilities right out of the box but switching sample packs and especially making my own is a hassle owing to the planets needing to be aligned for the audio signal to transmit without error between my phone or computer and the Sample. I suppose the USB port and extra memory on the new version would remedy this. The sequencer is really easy to use and having ten parts keeps me from having to try to combine parts to take up a single channel. Creatively I see no issue with composition other than having to trick it to get melodies, but technically retrieving my work other than just through the audio jack seems limiting. The greatest almost pocketable drum machine around has inspired me to look at more serious samplers for my setup. I'd recommend it to anyone as an idea machine.

Very Nice Sample Sequencer
This unit is worth more than twice the price. The audio manipulation that can be done with this unit is amazing. Parameter changes can be sequenced as well making this unit able to create very interesting sequences. Great little unit. Samples can be added into it using an iOs app.

Interesting view of sampler based on 90s samplers

Best hardware sampler for less than $300
Its a riot from minute one. Very intuitive controls, great sound, endless creativity options on tap. If you've used any of the other volcano, you already know how to use it, and obviously it syncs right up with the others. It also easily syncs with lots of other gear, either via the MIDI in, or the sync mini jack. The Volcas are about as good anything could get for the price.
