US Navy Submarine, Klaxon Style, Type H8 Horn (Dive Alarm)
Price: US $525.00
Great opportunity to own a piece of Naval Memorabilia! I got this Klaxon Style, Type H8 submarine diving alarm from a friend of mine that purchased it at an estate sale along with a couple other vintage ship alarms, and he was told by the women he purchased them from, that they were part of her late husbands collection. The tag on this says horn type IC / H8S4, Stock No. A6350-224-4943, Volts 115, CYC 60, AMPS 74
Below this it says NAVY DEPARTMENT BUREAU OF SHIPS, FEDERAL SIGN AND SIGNAL CORPORATION, Blue Island Ill. US Insp. Contract No.. This one also has a metal tag on the front under the horn part that says: CKT GD DIVING ALARM...I have not seen this on others listed here on e-bay, so I did some research and the GD is a designation for a submarine dive alarm, I could not find anything on the CKT, so not sure what that may be a designation for??. This has a household plug on the end of the cord, so I plugged it into 110 volts and it sounds great, and is quite loud. It puts out the AOUGAA sound, which reminds me of the old WWII movies that had submarines in them, that would sound this type alarm before diving. We live close to a Naval Ship Yard, so would imagine that this probably came off of one of the old subs that were dismantled there years back. This had some brown paint on it that I scrapped off to reveal what appears to be the factory battleship grey color. This dive alarm is quite heavy weighing in at approx. 11-1/2 Lbs, and would be a great addition to your naval military collection. I wish I knew which sub it was off of, but not sure how a person would even go about doing that. Thank-you for looking and happy offerding!
