Antique Pre(?)Civil War HAND Quilted Irridescent SILK Taffeta SKIRT/PETTICOAT Authentic antique pre(?) civil war era petticoat made of irridescent greenish taupe silk taffeta. Threads are pale grey/blue and beige, so there is a blue-ish caste. Silk is sturdy and very thin, but not brittle.
Lining is fine glazed cotton, and is pretty weak, but mostly intact. Color is similar to a paper bag.
Skirt panels are straight, not gored, and gathered on to a narrow corded yoke to reduce bulk at the waist. Seams and quilting are hand done.
Some machine stitching at top done by a previous owner. Several worn spots along hem where batting shows through, the largest being about 2\", the rest smaller. Also about a dozen or so faint spots mostly towards hem area, some just oilspots, some are rust colored. None are too obvious without close examination. Faint musty smell, but not too bad.
Length is about 31”, yoke is about 2.5”. Hem measures about 94” around.
