You are offerding on a rare original ATOMIC ROBOT MAN made in occupied Japan in 1945 (1947?). After Robot Lilliput (1937) this is the second oldest and first post-war tin robot. Size: 12,7 cm / 5 inches. With his good working wind-up mechanism the robot wiggles forward. Sometimes - if you wind him up too strongly - he falls backwards. The wind-up key has rust - I can't tell if this is the original key. Marked on the backside with the typical »JAPAN« stamp (see my pictures).Two versions exist: a tin arm version and one with cast metal arms (= this one). The first sighting is the Miles Kimball catalog of 1949, though the robot possibly predates this by a couple of years. The maker has not been established yet though the CK company is a strong contender. This robot bears a stylistic similarity to the pre-war Lilliput robot. The pin feet and the lithographic detailing have prompted speculation about the connection between them.A rare toy robot and an absolute MUST in every serious robot collection (I have two more, that's why I sell this guy).
