Very rare and original, 1890\'s Embossed, Tin Litho Advertising Sign for the Brooklyn Varnish Co Manufacturers of Paints and Varnishes for Horse Drawn Carriages and Coaches located in Brooklyn, N.Y. This outstanding Chromolithographed Tin Sign measures approx. 15 3/4\" by 10\" and features an embossed image of a tin container of the companies \"Rubolin Extra Coach\" Brand Varnish with a fantastic illustrated label featuring an image of the Brooklyn Bridge. Embossed text on the Sign is in Spanish (likely produced for the Mexican market) and reads \"Brooklyn Varnish Co. / Barnices Superiores Para Edicicios, Muebles Y Carruajes.\" and \"De Venta Aqui\" (Translation \"Brooklyn Varnish Co. / Superior Varnishes for Buildings, Furniture and Carriages\" and \"For Sale Here\").
The Brooklyn Varnish Company manufactured Varnishes and Paints for horse drawn Carriages and Coaches as well as other purposes.
This rare and very attractive, 1890\'s Tin Litho Embossed Advertising Sign is in excellent condition - the colors are bright and vibrant with no fading or discoloration. The silver and gold colored metallic inks retain their brilliant shine and the Sign displays beautifully. The surface of the Sign is stable with no flaking of crazing and are no bends, creases, or breaks to the tin substrate. There are scattered, minor and unobtrusive blemishes to the lithography but no significant scratches or scuffs. There is light edge wear only.
