Make sure to check out all of my sales after you look at this one. I\'m listing an eclectic assortment of museum quality antiques and collectibles, and I suspect there will be something of interest to just about everyone.Here\'s a gorgeous 1903 Victor Monarch disc phonograph (Type M) that\'s about as clean as they come and is in perfect working order. The Monarch was introduced by Victor founder Eldridge Johnson in 1901 as a front-mount machine. It was intended to be Victor\'s flagship phonograph -- the \"King\" of the line-up -- with a 10\" turntable and a ruggedly-built double-spring motor. In 1903, Victor added a mounting plate for a back-bracket, allowing the Monarch to accommodate a rear-mount tapering arm, which the company offered for an additional $5.00 (a righteous sum of money back then). As you can see in the pictures, the phonograph is pristine, with a cabinet that\'s close to mint, and an original finish that exhibits virtually no wear and has no chips, no dents, no dings, no missing chunks of wood, no problems. Just furniture quality oak that\'s clearly been pampered over the course of its lifetime. The nickel-plated fittings gleam, the original turntable felt exhibits virtually no wear, the ID plate is clean and legible, the brake is working properly, the horn elbow is nearly perfect, with no dings or dents, the motor and governor are working properly, the original Victor Exhibition reproducer is working properly (and sounds great). The original Victor horn has a 14\" diameter bell is in excellent original condition, with beautiful original paint, a clean original Nipper decal, and no dents or damage.
Overall, an exceptional 110-year-old Victor that will arrive ready to play an enjoy.
I\'ll include with the phonograph an early Victor record, and if you get tired of listening to it, there are plenty of other titles available on and elsewhere. Thousands of early acoustic 78 RPM records show up on on a weekly basis, and they typically sell for just a few dollars each. If you\'re not already familiar with how tooperate an early disc phonograph, don\'t worry. I\'ll provide you with simple, easy to understandset-up instructions,so you\'ll be able to use it within a few minutes after unpacking it.
I\'ve been sellingand shippingantique phonographs, antique radios and antique scientific apparatus for more than 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, you\'ll receive a phonograph that arrives safely because it\'s been carefully packed (byme, not by some well-intentioned but nonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store who wouldn\'t know a phonograph from a farm tool), and you\'ll receive a phonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up and operating instructions, so you won\'t be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works. Sure, you can probably get a lower price from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your \"bargain\" arrives broken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able to put it back together, you\'ll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.
That\'s about it. I will carefully prepeverything for shipping andpack everything carefully and properly. Overseas buyers, please contact me in advance for a shipping quote and for my confirmation that I can ship it to you. The phonograph will be expensive to ship, as it will need to go out in two large packages (phonograph in one package; horn in the other). sale participants with no prior response history, or with hidden response, should contact me before placing a offer. Buyer prepays and includes shipping.
