1903 Berliner Type B Gramophone w/Original Berliner Soundbox * Rare Phonograph
Price: US $843.00

Another week, another excellent assortment of mechanical, technological and musical antiques, including some stuff I swore I\'d never sell. Take a look. You won\'t be disappointed.Here\'s a beautiful and very uncommon Berliner Type B Gramophone. The phonograph was manufactured in Montreal in 1903 and is one of only three examples I\'ve seen in decades of collecting. It\'s in good working order, and it will arrive ready to play and display. Mechanism is clean, and it runs very well. Governor regulates the speed properly. Spindle is straight, turntable is level and the phonograph plays without wobble. The original Berliner Automatic Sound Box is in excellent condition, with nice original nickel plating and a straight needle bar. It sound good, too. The tonearm and support arm are in good condition, with some hazy build-up (looks like old wax) on the pivot end of tonearm. The support arm is clean, with only minimal tarnish. The cabinet is clean and solid, with no wood damage and a nice original finish. The ID plate is clean and legible as you can see. The turntable felt is original, and it\'s in good condition, with no needle digs, no insect damage. Some normal pitting and tarnish on the nickel-plated parts. The record hold-down, horn elbow and horn are later made, probably from the 1960\'s.Plays early 7\", 8\" and 10\" records -- Victor, Columbia, you name the brand. When fully wound, it will make it all of the way a record without the need for re-winding.I\'ll include with the phonograph an early acoustically recorded record, and if you get tired of listening to it, there are plenty of other titles available on and elsewhere. Thousands of early acoustic 78 RPM records show up on on a weekly basis, and they typically sell for just a few dollars each. If you\'re not already familiar with how tooperate an early disc phonograph, don\'t worry. I\'ll provide you with simple, easy to understandset-up instructions,so you\'ll be able to use it within minutes after you unpack it and put it together. I\'ve been selling and shipping antique phonographs, antique radios and antique scientific apparatus for more than 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, you\'ll receive a phonograph that arrives safely because it\'s been carefully packed (by me, not by some well-intentioned but nonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store who wouldn\'t know a phonograph from a farm tool), and you\'ll receive a phonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up and operating instructions, so you won\'t be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works. Sure, you can probably get a lower price from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your \"bargain\" arrives broken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able to put it back together, you\'ll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.That\'s about it. I will carefully prepeverything for shipping andpack everything carefully and properly. sale participants with no prior response history, or with hidden response, should contact me before placing a offer. Buyer prepays and includes shipping.
