This hard-to-find (if not rare) item is a pinback lapel pin (button) produced in Australia to support the Australian Navy during World War I. With a well-done and very colorful image of a naval ship and officer, this item has the words NAVY DAY ADELAIDE OCTOBER 1917 KEEP WATCH along the rim. During WW I, Navy Day in the city of Adelaide was celebrated to raise funds in support of Navy personnel. The attractive design includes at least eight different colors! The name of the manufacturer of this 'button' is on the curl of the item and is partially obscured by the frame, but the maker was A. W. Patrick in Melbourne. The attachment pin has a 'catch' built into the frame. The button measures approximately 32 mm (1-1/4") in diameter.

This item is in very good condition, with a bold design, and the multiple colors remain strong. The face of this pin/button remains bright. There are light signs of handling, with the only notable 'detraction' being a slight bend in the surface that is hard to see unless viewed from an angle. The closed metal back has the toning typical of such. The attachment pin remains very strong, and the catch works well.
