1937 Midwest Model X-18 \"Skyscraper\" Cabinet Tube Radio, 18 tubes, Art Deco
Price: US $710.00
One of the holy grails for the tube radio collector, the Midwest model X-18 is a monster in size, in performance, and in sheer room-filling, eye-grabbing presence. Utilizing Midwest\'s powerful model 18-37 chassis, this beast features 18 tubes, including quad 6N6s in the output (this chassis comes with 4 6V6s), making this radio an unparalleled performer. The breathtaking \"Skyscraper\" cabinet is one of the pinnacles of Art Deco cabinet design. This radio is complete and in unrestored condition. The electronics are untouched (note- do not attempt to operate this radio until it\'s been checked and recapped by a radio tech). I tested the transformer (pulling the rectifier tubes) and it seems fine. Good filaments on all of the glass tubes. The knobs are all present but could use a cleaning- some are stained with what looks like white paint. The escutcheon has a few paint chips. The chrome is okay but getting a little prickly. The chassis and speaker basket are free of major rust and the speaker cone is intact. The cabinet is SOLID. No looseness, so squeaks, no wiggles- the joints are all tight and well-fitted. The cabinet has the usual assortment of small scratches and dings that a 77 year-old radio will accumulate. As the photos show, someone started to refinish the top and quit after stripping off some of the lacquer. Since these were toned black all over up top, it\'s a fairly simple matter to re-shoot it in black and leave the rest of the original finish untouched. The grill cloth is original but loose and dusty on the bottom. With a little TLC, this is sure to become the centerpiece of any radio collection. If you would like additional photos of any particular feature, please don\'t hesitate to ask. Shipping- The best way to ship this would be via Greyhound- please contact me and we can work out the details. This radio is incredibly huge and heavy, and no matter what method is chosen it will be shipped in two parts- chassis in one box, cabinet in another. I have experience in packing consoles for shipping and I use lots and lots of big-bubble bubble wrap. Better than shipping would be pick-up or delivery. Here are some options:-You are free to pick this up at my home in Ferndale, Michigan 48220. I\'ll help you load and pad it for the trip home.
- If you want to use a moving or pick-up service, I\'m happy to work with you.
-I will be glad to deliver this radio, free of charge, to either the Midland or the Lansing MARC (Michigan Antique Radio Club) shows.
-I can deliver this radio to you, with these basic guidelines: Free within 25 miles. Up to 250 miles for gas money (I drive a newer minivan), tolls (if any) and lunch, which would take it as far as Chicago, Toronto, Indianapolis, Buffalo, Columbus, or Pittsburgh. I\'d possibly be willing to go further than that for gas and expenses- please contact me and we can hash it out. Any questions? Please contact me. Thank you for checking out my item, and happy offerding!
