Price: US $9.99

This photo is an excellent high quality new 8” x 10” b&w glossy photo reproduction of a fleet photo of FIVE NEW 1947 WHITE WB SERIES TRACTORS in the COMMERCIAL MOTOR FREIGHT Fleet Pulling Stainless Steel Semi-Trailers.

”SAMPLE” will not appear on your photo, it is only on the scanned image.

DESCRIPTION: These COMMERCIAL MOTOR FREIGHT Whites are the WB Series, with the distinctive domed air scoop on the cowl. They were probably WB-22 models, but I can’t be sure. The have Ohio 1947 truck plates, 3 of them in consecutive numbers. They have no turn signals, and still have the almost worthless small round rear-view mirrors that vibrated, making vision pretty difficult.

HISTORY OF COMMERCIAL MOTOR FREIGHT: Like many other pioneer motor carriers, Commercial Motor Freight started with one unit, delivering within a 30-mile radius of Columbus, OH, in 1917. President E. DeMaria soon established service all over Ohio and into WV, IN & KY. By 1958 Commerical employed 1700 and operated 1300 vehicles. Several other carriers were acquired, the largest being Lovelace Truck Service of Terre Haute, IN, in 1977, changing the name to Commercial-Lovelace Motor Freight. In 1983 Commercial-Lovelace took on their most ambitious expansion with the purchase of Lee Way Motor Freight of Oklahoma City, a coast-to-coast carrier operating 82 terminals in 28 states. Commercial-Lovelace was never really able to swallow the Lee Way giant, and operated just two more years before shutting down the entire operation in 1985. Another proud trucking pioneer gone, but for the memories of its thousands of loyal employees and their families.

WHITE WB SERIES: A popular fleet road tractor in the post-war USA, replacing the WA Series that was introduced in 1941. I believe all WB Series were powered with White 6-cylinder gasoline engines, most of them in the 125-hp range. In 1947, the WC Series was introduced, some of those with Cummins engines.
