1967 HARDY "Midge" PALAKONA 6', 2/1, 2 oz. Featherweight Split Bamboo Fly Rod w/
Price: US $668.00
It's my pleasure to offer at sale a Superband rather Scarce 1967 HARDY "6 FT. MIDGE" "PALAKONA" 2/1, 2-OUNCE SPLIT BAMBOO FEATHERWEIGHT FLY ROD WITH BAG & TUBE. I don't know what the production numbers were for Hardy's "6 ft. Midge", but they are very rarely seen for sale. The only sales history I could find was for a virtually identical single-tip example #H70568 (1966) that recently sold through the CLASSIC FISHING TACKLE website. This rod, with serial #H70573, was built in 1967, so it sounds like it could be a very limited run.Handwritten on the rod shaft is "H70573 - 6 FT. MIDGE - 2 OZ. - "PALAKONA" - REGD. TRADE MARK - W.H. Holman, Apr. 1967". The same serial number is handwritten on the tip section and is also stamped on the reel seat's sliding band, The butt cap is stamped "Made ByHardy's England". One of the most delicate rods I've handled, weighing in at 2 oz. and considered to be a 4 wt. Made with quality cane and comes equipped with what looks like a clear agatine stripping guide, (4) English-twist snake guides, chromed tip top, serrated 12/64" ferrules (both stamped "33"), flip-ring hook keeper, aluminum(?) winding check, sliding ring & butt cap, solid cork grip & reel seat and wound in green silk tipped in red. Rod is in Extra Fine condition, showinglittle evidence of use. The original plastic still remains on the grip (although split, with two bands keeping it stable). Bamboo is perfect, with no splits cracks or delamination whatsoever. Both sections are the correct length and are arrow-straight. Original varnish and rod shaft markings are pristine. All wraps are solid and complete. All guides, tip top, ferrules, hook keeper, winding check and reel seat hardware are excellent. The solid cork grip and reel seat are superb. About as good as it gets. Put up in a cloth bag and "Sierra" aluminum tube, both of which remain in nice condition. A great and rather scarce ultra-light package from Hardy. To be sold with a very low starting offer and . Buyer to pay $16.00 shipping via U.S. Priority Mail, with full insurance and tracking. Payment must be received within 7 days of sale closure. Thanks for your time and good luck.
