Introducing the Hashimoto H-203S:
The Hashimoto H-203S is for applications
that require 2.5K or 3.5K Ohms primary with up to 7 Watts output level into 4,
8, 16 Ohms. The H-203S is equipped with an
Ultra-Linear tap for 2.5K or 3.5K Ohms primary, and its frequency response
covers between 45Hz and 100,000Hz (+-3db) - please click the right thumbnail to see the actual chart.
The H-203S is called a universal type because it can be used under 2.5K or 3.5K
Ohms of primary through separate B+ terminals. Since the H-203S has
separate B+ terminals, it also has independent Ultra-Linear taps for each
primary impedance. The H-203S is suitable for single-ended applications that
utilize popular vacuum tubes, such as 300B, 2A3, KT-88, 6550, EL34 (6CA7), 6B4G,
6A3, and 6L6-GC. The H-203S is a little brother of Hashimoto's one of the best
sellers, the H-20-3.5U, 20W SE Out Put Transformer.
Although the output level of the H-203S is rated less than that of the H-20-3.5U,
the H-203S has been one of the most poplar Hashimoto models due to its fantastic sound.
If you would like to enjoy sensitive low powered SE sound through high
efficiency full range speakers, the H-203S should be the one for you to pick up.
The H-203S measures 66 (W) x 66 (D) x 85 (H) mm, and weighs
1.3Kg (2.9 LB). The Primary Inductance can be chosen
9H/60mA (3.5K Ohms) and 6.5H/70mA (2.5K Ohms).
The Maximum DC Current can be
up to 90mA. The H-203S consists of a EI core. The core material is 0.35mm Orient Core
Z, which is the directional silicon steel, from Nippon Steel Corporation,
equivalent to M6 . Please refer to our
Technical Aspects page for more details on technical details as well as
Hashimoto Product Design Philosophy.
As being mentioned, the Hashimoto H-203S
is one of the
most popular output transformers that Hashimoto Electric, Ltd. in Tokyo Japan
introduced in 2002. Today, Hashimoto products are regarded as one of the
premier tube amp transformers among Japanese hi-fi enthusiasts and columnists
who originally introduced the sound of single-ended amplifiers in the world
during1980’s and 1990’s. In fact, some of most influential columnists have
been switching their favorite transformers of their choice from Tamura or Tango,
to ones with Hashimoto brand, such as the H-203S.
Who is Hashimoto Electric anyway?
Hashimoto is by-no-means a new comer in this very traditional, but exciting
industry. Hashimoto Electric, Ltd., in Tokyo Japan has been a long-time Sansui
transformer OEM (since 1960’s). Hashimoto merged Sansui’s transformer business
in 1978, and Hashimoto was the company who reproduced the AU-111 transformers
when Sansui reissued the famed AU-111 in 1999 as the AU-111 Vintage. As a
matter of fact, Hashimoto is the only company that still carries the original
Sansui logo on its product lines, and some of Hashimoto’s key engineers are
Today, Hashimoto Electric produces not
only various traditional transformers that Sansui pioneered many years ago, but
also high-end tube amp transformers under its own brand name. The amazing
thing is that all Hashimoto transformers are still handcrafted one-by-one by
very skilled and experienced employees (Please refer to the actual photos
I took when visited Hashimoto last June).
Because some of Hashimoto engineers have
more than 40 years of transformer designing experiences through out Sansui and
Hashimoto era, all Hashimoto transformers still
maintain the superior characteristics and sound of Sansui transformers. In addition,
all Hashimoto transformers are redesigned from the ground up. This means
that Hashimoto transformers are the 21st Century products that have been
fine-tuned with computer aided programs and have utilized new materials that
were simply not available forty some years ago. As the result, the
H-203S is one of the leading Hashimoto products that have been winning
reputations among critics as, "The sound through
Hashimoto transformers simply belongs to a different class compared with that of
