APPLE III Computer 256K, Monitor, Printer - Powers up, includes software/manuals
Price: US $699.00
Up for sale today is an Apple III computer with 256k of RAM, a Monitor III, a Silentype printer, and a box of Apple III software and manuals. The Apple III\'s 40th anniversary is coming up in less than 2 years, here\'s your chance to be ready tocelebrate with one of your own!
Please read the description carefully. While this computer boots up and appears to function correctly, there\'s either a bad chip somewhere on the motherboard or some other malfunction that\'s causing the display to be almost unreadable. It worked correctly when I booted it up 10 years ago, so over the last decade of storage something\'s gone amiss.
Here are the important details:
  • The Apple III boots, the red light on the motherboard comes on, and the light on the keyboard works. The floppy drive will read disks, and from what I can discern on the screen, it loads up (the main picture is from running the demo disk, I can almost make out the changes in what it\'s displaying, I believe the screen in the picture is a bar graph demo).
  • The display is still crisp and bright. All the adjustment knobs work as expected.
  • The keyboard is missing two keys. I have one of them, which will be included taped to the packing around the computer itself. The other key appears to be lost to time. Both keys broke off fairly close to the keycap, so the plungers can still be pushed to input the missing characters.
  • The monitor screen has a scratch to the anti-glare coating in the upper left corner, almost in a \"G\" shape. This is visible in the picture of the monitor when it\'s not turned on. Personally I don\'t even notice it when the monitor is on.
  • The printer is untested, since I can\'t see what\'s going on with any software. As this is a computer that I inherited from someone else, I don\'t know the condition of the printerother than physically it looks good.
  • A partly used roll of thermal paper is also included, although I can\'t guaranteethat it will look very good when used.
  • Software is as pictured, but I can\'t guarantee that all the disks work, given their age. I amunsure what\'s on the non-program disks.
  • One of the filtercapacitors in the power supply released its magic smoke when I started testing this. I have replaced that one capacitor, but nothing else has been replaced on the power supply or the motherboard.
  • I did try reseating the larger chips, and most of the RAM on the riser, in an effort to fix the display issue. Either Imissed theculprit chip or it\'s some other problem, because nothing I did fixed it.
For someone with slightly more experience and time than I have, this would probably be an easy fixer to get back to 100% working condition. I have more pictures of various angles of the computer, monitor, and printer that I can send if desired.
Returns are accepted in the event that the description does not match the itemsreceived. Given the age of this computer, I cannot accept returns if it arrives DOA or if it fails shortly after (although maybe some shipping will rattle some of its chips back into place).
Will ship in two boxes, local pickup is available as well. Please ask any questions, I\'m happy to provide answers.
