What is This Kit?
Thiskit includes a piece of hardware used by Apple technicians with the aim ofhelping customers recover data from those MacBook Pro models (A1706 &A1707) that were designed without a removable SSD. Rather, these MacBook Promodels used chips that were soldered directly to the logic board, making datarecovery difficult when the logic board malfunctions.
Thegood news is that, for these A1706 & A1707 MacBook Pro models, Appleintegrated a special connection port—referred to as a “lifeboat” port—thatallows this device to be connected directly to a dead logic board. The bad newsis, these devices were never sold directly to the public by Apple, and arebecoming increasingly rare to find. Some companies, such as LA Computers, madethese devices available for a time, but are recently sold out.

Thekit being sold here is one of those aforementioned kits sold by LA Computers.It has been used twice thus far—once by the individual who purchased it from LAComputers, and once by this seller. Whoever purchases this device will find itin pristine condition, as it was only used by both parties for a few minutes topull the data off of a dead logic board and then repackaged.
In the Box:
- The Customer Data Migration Tool:a small electronic box with a ribbon cable attached for connecting to the dead logic board’s lifeboat port
- A Logic Board Holder:a platform to place the logic board on to once it has been removed
- A USB-C to USB-C Cable:to connect from the Customer Data Migration Tool to the computer being used to transfer the recovered data
- A Power Cord and Adapter:to power the Customer Data Migration Tool
- A Spare Ribbon Cable:The ribbon cable on the Customer Data Migration Tool is very delicate, so this spare cable is just in case you were to break the original cable

Also,the computer you\'re using to access the dead computer logic board needs to havea USB-C Thunderbolt 3-compatible port. Both Machines plugged into the deviceneed to feature Thunderbolt 3.

ThisCustomer Data Migration Tool Kit never guarantees you will be able to recoveryour data. That is the risk this seller took when purchasing the device. Forexample, if the dead logic board is due to water damage, this device may notwork. Please inspect your board before purchasing this device to determine ifthere is any evidence of damage to the board itself. In our case, the boardshowed no sign of water damage or breaks—it had merely failed over time, asthey sometimes do. Therefore, purchase at your own risk—but be aware there isstill a resale market for these devices, at a minimum, if you are looking torecover some of the cost.
