This sale is for a vintage Compaq SLT286 Vintage Portable Computer Collectible Model 2680 - \"First Laptop\". Excerpt from Laptop Magazine: \"Other clamshell laptops existed when the Compaq SLT/286 was announced on October 17, 1988, but the SLT/286 was the first battery-powered portable PC and the first with a true VGA display. It also was the first laptop with a built-in 3.5-inch floppy drive, and was two to three inches smaller than previous attempts, which means it fit on an airplane tray table.\" The unit powers on and reports that its 640Kb of RAM are okay. However there is a \"Disk 0 Error\" and the system does not proceed, probably meaning that the BIOS battery and/or the hard disk are dead (or missing). No further or in-depth testing could be done, so this item is sold as is, for parts, refurbishing, repairing or collecting. There is a small crack on the back of the swiveling part of the monitor. The keyboard cord also has several cracks.This computer was marketed in two models, one with a 20Mb hdd and another with a 40Mb hdd. We don\'t know which disk is in this unit, or if it\'s still inside. This one comes with 2 rechargeable NiCAD batteries, but only one charges. It powers the computer correctly, but we don\'t know how long would it retain the charge (when new it lasted 3 hours according to Laptop Magazine). The other battery does not charge at all. The bundle also comes with 2 AC adapters and an original Compaq laptop case. No documentation or diskettes included.
