We go beyond powering our switches up, as a method to test them. We personally have attached a computer to these switches & locally tested every single KVM port for mouse, Keyboard & video connectivity & activity. We have also connected to the terminal port, unlocked any passwords & reset the switch back to factory defaults then remotely accessed the switch using theDell Remote Console Switchsoftware.
As with any devices pulled from production environments, these switches may havesome minor dents, scratches orscuff.
** Oracle Java & all web browsers updates have tightened their security settings so much lately, which is preventing these KVM switches from launching a remote, KVM over IP session, which require Java 7.xx & a web browser with TLS 1.0/1.1 enabled.
Newer operating systems & web browsers\' updates have TLS 1.0/1.1 disabled. For these reasons, we are selling these switches as Stand Alone KVM switches forlocalaccess, unless you use Java 7.xx andenable TLS 1.0 on your Firefox browser.
We do sell the Avocent Mergepoint switches at our store that can use either Java or HTM5 (No Java), instead.

The Dell2161DS-2/4161DS is rack-mountable for easy integration into the data center. Ithas 16 CAT 5/RJ-45 ports for connecting servers. Administrators can then accessthese servers across a 10/100/1000T Ethernet connection or directly through theswitch’s analog port. Video quality through the local port can be enhanced upto 1024 x 768 with an end-to-end cable length of up to 50 feet (15 meters).Remote users can achieve video resolutions of up to 1024 x 768. Up to 256servers can be accessed with the addition of PortExtension Modules, or PEMs.

A choice ofthree Server Interface Pods (SIPs) — PS/2, USB or USB2 virtual media — areavailable with the Dell 2161DS-2/4161DS to address a variety of connectivityserver needs (sold seperately). A SIP replaces a bulky KVM cable by convertingthe keyboard, monitor and mouse signals from a server and driving them up to 50feet (15 meters) through a single CAT 5 cable. The SIP cable draws its powerfrom the server and has a keep-alive functionality that is designed to keep theserver working properly with or without connectivity to the
Dell2161DS-2/4161DS unit.
The switchincludes the On-Screen Configuration and Activity Reporting (OSCAR®) interfacefor analog control from the local workstation.
The on-boardweb interface provides similar management functions as the RCS, but does notrequire a software server or any installation. The on-board web interface islaunched directly from the switch, and any servers connected to the Dell2161DS-2/4161DS are automatically detected. Launch the viewer from the on-boardweb interface to establish KVM and virtual media sessions to target devices.
The Dell2161DS-2/4161DS offers virtual media capabilities that allow viewing, moving orcopying of data located on virtual media to and from any server that isconnected to the switch. Virtual media can be connected directly to USB portson the switch or the server hosting the on-board web interface browser session.You can open a virtual media session to a server from the viewer. The viewercan be opened from either the on-board web interface or RCS.
Note:The server must be connected to a Dell 2161DS-2/4161DS using a USB2 virtualmedia SIP to open a virtual media session.
The Avocent®DSView® 3 management software is a secure, browser-based, centralizedenterprise management solution that allows users to remotely access, manage,monitor and control target devices through managed appliances. Using the DSView3 management software plug-in, the Dell 2161DS-2/4161DS can manage and connectto multi-vendor servers and devices from within the DSView 3 software. Once theDell 2161DS-2/4161DS is added in the DSView 3 heterogeneous networkenvironment, the DSView 3 software can be used for fault management, sessionsmanagement, firmware upgrades and more.
Note:DSView 3 is not included with the Dell 2161DS-2/4161DS and should be purchasedseparately.
