Vintage Excellent GRiD GRiDCASE 1520 Laptop
This is a vintage GRiD SystemsGRiDCASE 1520 laptop computer in excellent cosmetic and working condition. It was originally owned by a US Marine, who served in the Iraq War, so it likely had military use.
The laptop boots up fine and the DOS 3.3 operation system loads directly from the ROM chip that sits in a socket
A GRiDCase 1520 is on display at the American History Museum in Washington, DC and one appeared in the 1986 movie \"Aliens\". The earlier GRiD \"Compass\" was the first laptop used onboard the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station in the 1980\'s.
This rare laptop has a high-contrast red gas-plasma display, a rugged Magnesium exterior case and includes the following:

The only operational flaw is that the lithium CMOS/BIOS backup batteryis dead; because of this it cannot remember the time/date information each time the computer is turned on. If the CMOS/BIOS backup battery is replaced it will be possible for the Time/Date to be loaded automatically.
The only exterior flaw is some light chipping/scrapes along some of the metal case edge surfaces.

\"The GRiDCase computer is range of rugged laptops from GRiD Systems as a successor to the GRiD Compass laptops. The first model was released in 1985. The 1500 Series was announced in 1987 and due to ship in January 1988.
The GRiDCase 1500 series was aimed at field professionals for working in and out of the office. They wereIBM AT-compatible and ran the MS-DOS operating system. Unlike the Compass range of laptops, the GRiDCase was battery operable, making them the first 286 and 386 battery-operated laptops.
The GRiDCase 1520 model was powered by the 80C286 CPU, and came with 1Mb RAM as standard. It had two ROM slots, up to 512K capacity.
The 1520 model was originally sold for $3,495.
