Up for sale is avintage Macintosh model Apple-CD 300 external CD Reader (serial number ofSS3223CFM3023, built date of May, 1993 in San Diego, CA.).
This unit has beentested on a Macintosh Centris 610 (System 7) and reads and plays CDs correctly. The unit is very clean as I am the original owner (see all photos).
The Apple-CD 300 is afront-loading CD-ROM that uses a caddie to load the CD into the player. Yep, thatis the way it was done in the early nineties. It has a mini audio jack on thefront for listening to an audio CD, and an eject button to eject the CD caddie. The 300 has atransfer rate of 295ms with a 256KB buffer, which made it twice as fast as other CD-ROMreaders in its day. Apple has always been cutting edge.
It is compatible withthe industry-standard ISO 9660/High Sierra file formats, as well as with MacintoshHFS and is fully compatible with Macintosh operating system software, includingSystem 6/7. The player will also play a standard format audio CD using thehead phone jack on the front or the rear RCA audio cables.
Please let me know ifyou have any questions and I will answer them promptly.
