TRS-80 - GOTEK & 2x DSDD floppy drive for Model 1 - 3.5\" 720K and 5.25\" 360K
Price: US $249.00

This sale is for a working GOTEK with dual drive floppy drive unit so works as 3 drives. It is housed in a Tandy FD-502 case. Original 5.25\" 40-track floppy drive was removed and replaced with a 360K 5.25\" 40-track drive. A second drive was added. It is a 720K 3.5\" 80-track drive (actually a 1.44MB drive but TRS-80 Model I / III / 4 will only recognize 720K). Finally, a GOTEK was removed from its case and installed in a 3D printed holder that also holds the 3.5\" drive. This drive unit has been setup for a TRS-80 Model I with Expansion Interface (neither are included). I don\'t know if it will work with a Model III or Model IV or color computer. Note: the 5.25\" 40-track floppy drive will not fit inside a Model III or 4. The floppy connector cable was also replaced with a new custom-built cable with a switch that allows swapping drive identities - changing Drive 0 as GOTEK, Drive 1 as 5.25\" and Drive 2 as 3.5\" to Drive 0 as 5.25\" and Drive 1 as 3.5\" and Drive 2 as GOTEK to Drive 0 as 5.25\" and Drive 1 as 3.5\" and Drive 2 as GOTEK. Cosmetically the case is pretty good for its age with some scuffs and scrapes (see pictures).

Included are 6 good 5.25\" floppy diskettes (unformatted), 1 good 3.5\" floppy diskette and a USB drive with 31 working Model I disk images. This will save you major time in getting a GOTEK to work with a Model 1 especially if trying to create a double sided double density LDOS boot diskette. To use full capacity of drives LDOS must be used (there are some other options as well). To use full capacity of drives on a TRS-80 Model I, a doubler is also needed. Without a doubler maximum capacity on a Model I is 200K for 5.25\" drive and 400K for 3.5\" floppy drive. As you can see you can have almost 1.5MB of space free across the three drives. Only drive, USB drive and diskettes are included.

Tested on a TRS-80 Model I (not included). Ran TEST2/BAS over 40 times without any errors detected. TRSDOS 2.3 only uses a single side and only uses 35 tracks (about 90K). Alignment of the 5.25\" drive was checked and was good. Drive was also tested with original factory diskettes and the 5.25\" drive had no trouble reading the diskettes. Diskettes created on this drive were tested on other drives and there was no problem reading the diskettes on other drives.

This unit makes it very easy to convert diskette to images and vice versa. E.g. you can create a new image by copying the correct sized diskette to a new name (several sizes stored on the USB drive for this purpose), boot from your diskette and then back to the new image created. Similarly, you can boot from the GOTEK and then format a physical diskette to create a backup.

It is possible to replace the 3.5\" floppy with a second GOTEK jumpered to DS1, but to replace the 5.25\" drive requires an edge card to 3.5\" adapter that allows mapping of DS2 to DS1 or DS0 as the GOTEK can\'t be set to DS2.

I do not accept returns. Payment is expected within 3 days of the close of sale. Payment is via . I do not ship outside the United States. I will combine shipping. Thanks for looking.
