Microsoft\'s first hardware product was the Softcard, a Z80 coprocessor card that allowed the CP/M operating system to be run on an Apple II. CP/M was a popular operating system for Intel 8080/Zilog Z-80 based systems, and ran on many early microcomputers. It was written in the late 1970\'s by Gary Kildall, founder of Digital Research, Inc.The softcard is a plug-in peripheral card for Apple II microcomputer. It contains a Z80A CPU and allows the Apple to run CP/M based software written for microcomputers (Microsoft also sold several programming languages that ran under CP/M, including BASIC, COBOL, and FORTRAN). This is the CP/M Z80 card that pretty much all Apple II Z-80 cards are based on.The softcard can be used with the Apple II or Apple II Plus microcomputer with a minimum of 48K RAM and one disk drive. The softcard can be used with an Apple Language Card and can utilize 12K of the Language Card\'s lOK RAM.The softcard and floppy disk being soldAS IS untested.
