Arthur who piloted planes in the 9th Fighter Sq.from 1943 to 1945.In April of 1945 he was shot down over Formosa and was taken prisoner by the Japanese. He was sent to the infamous OFUNA prison just out side of Tokyo where he spent the rest of the war.The Ofuna prison was made famous because at one time it held Louis Zamperini the man they made the movie Unbroken about.Captain Arthur was the only member of the 49th Fighter group who survived a shot down and became a prisoner. The 9th Fighter Squadron had an Osprey book written on the squadron called 49th Fighter Group Aces Of The Pacific. On page 92 of that book Captain Arthur is pictured sitting in his aircraft. If you want to own a real piece of Named WW2 Aviation History give this fantastic Aussie made 9th a second glance.PS if you look at the scans of the large group you can see its the patch in the group the same small thread is sticking out of the squadron patch dead center of the left side of the red bend and the tip of the right wing tip on the helmet is smudged the same .
