Description: A exceptional Stoneware Molasses, Syrup or Cider Jug with Cobalt Bird decoration, New York State origin, ca.1870. Wheel-thrown, Beehive form with tooled rim, oversized "Bird's Beak" spout and applied strap handle. Impressed on the shoulder with a crisp, cobalt-washed stamp: HAXSTUN, OTTMAN & CO. / FORT EDWARD, N.Y. This mark was used, roughly 1867-1872. See Internet for further information. Front features a large Songbird on a stylized Floral Spray, artistically executed in bold, Slip-Trailed Cobalt. Shiny tan, Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior.


Condition: Early restoration noted on the rim and spout, as shown; otherwise Excellent with bold color. Inherent surface and firing imperfections (embedded stone, scar near base, glaze drip near bird's tail) noted for descriptive accuracy. Super clean.
