The History
This beautiful pin comes from the Art Deco Era! The Art Deco Era is famous for being the \"Gatsby\" or \"Roaring Twenties\" Era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period.
During the Art Deco Period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.
Tourmaline mining began at Mount Mica, Maine, and with a few interruptions, has continued to the present day. During the early 1900s, Maine and California were the world\'s largest producers of Tourmaline gemstones. The Empress Dowager Tz\'u Hsi, the last Empress of China, loved pink tourmaline and bought large quantities for gemstones and carvings from the Himalaya Mine, located in San Diego County, California.
This pin was bought from an English Estate and then brought to the U.S.
The Piece
The piece includes an incredible Tourmaline gem stone center piece! The Tourmaline is professionally Emerald cut and show cases eye catching facets that reflect light beautifully. The Tourmaline show cases a deep green color and features one of the most stunning clarity\'s I have ever seen inside of a gem stone. The stone weighs in at 5.36 Cts.
The gold work in this piece includesclassic Art Deco Era craftsmanship throughout and is beautifully hand carved out of yellow gold. The design includes thick prong settings that hold the Tourmaline down on each corner and a thick base that also helps support the gem stone. The gold work also show cases a smoothly polished surface which gives it even more elegance and style.
The pin measures 2.75\" long by 1/2\" wide and is finished off with an enclosed style pin backing that works perfectly. If you wish your local jeweler could fasten a bale onto the piece so it could be worn as a pendant!
