This is a very lovely Vintage Wooden Fife with a metal, (pewter?) Cheater. Measures approximately 16 & 1/8 inches long. Has 6 finger holes and a slightly oval blow hole. I could find no makers mark (I do see what I think is a C on the wood, but I cannot make it out completely, it might be nothing.) The wood is darker, I would guess rosewood, I do not know for sure. I believe the ferrules are nickel, they have a pattern, as you can see in the photos. I have taken photos with the Cheater on and with it off, so you can see the wear and wood underneath. I have not cleaned the Fife.
I do not know much about instruments, but I will answer any questions as best I can. I am selling this for a friend, from her parents\' estate, (both her folks were only children, and lived to be in their nineties.)
I do believe this to be of the civil war era, but I do not know the age for sure. It is obviously quite old. There are some scratches along the wood, but nothing major. No warping or splitting, that I can see. I do offer returns, so offer with confidence.
Thank you and have a great day!
